Bring Your Workout Outside
by Rachel Lukasavige

There's no reason why you have to spend money on a gym membership to get in shape. Take advantage of the summer weather and bring your workout outside. Pretty much anything that can be done indoors can also be done outside.

Your workout can be as simple as walking, which firms up muscles and raises heart rate, just like any aerobic exercise. Another good option in the summer is swimming. Not only will you be burning calories and staying in shape, you'll also be staying cool! If you own a bike, get out and ride it, or find a buddy and go play tennis.

Exercising outdoors can actually be more beneficial for you because it tends to burn more calories than traditional indoor activities. This is because when we exercise outdoors we deal with environmental factors such as wind and terrain changes. You'll also be less likely to get bored with your workout.

If you're new to exercise there are great options for small steps you can take. Here are some ideas to get you started: washing your windows, gardening, doing housework, washing and waxing your car, or mowing the lawn.

Gym memberships can be hard on your pocketbook, so start thinking outside the box about exercises you can do that won't cost you money.
